About Us

Origin of Richmond City Watch (RCW)

Richmond City Watch, also known as “RCW”, began as a small photo gallery of Richmond photos in March 2000. The site was hosted on Yahoo’s Geocities and grew in content once I purchased a digital camera that same year. My initial goal was to highlight existing high-rise buildings as well as document new high-rise construction in the City.

Over the years, thousands more photos have been taken or collected to display a visual progression of downtown Richmond. A downtown Richmond building survey was completed in 2005 that documented the existing buildings located in a area bounded by I-95/I-64, the James River and Route 1 (Belvidere Street).

Today the site is hosted on a shared server by Hostrocket. I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge all the help over the years from folks who have donated time, web hosting, money and information to make this site a resource for Richmond on the internet.
